Hlub Hmong Center reflects our love and passion for the Hmong community. Since 2010 we have become a leading Hmong advocacy organization, respected for connecting the strengths of public institutions with the strengths of Hmong culture. Hmong lay-leaders drive both institutional systems change and family cultural change.
We began as Project Prevention in May 2010, launched after the first San Joaquin Valley Hmong Health Disparities Conference sponsored by the Hmong Health Collaborative and UC Merced. The disparities named there were not new — they had gone unaddressed for decades.
Before 2014 our work focused on access to healthcare through cultural and linguistic brokering. In 2014 our leadership set two aims: policy and systems change inside public-serving institutions, and the creation of a Merced Hmong Cultural Center. United Way of Merced County has been our fiscal sponsor since 2011.
